Awards

The ITEACH team focuses on finding learning and funding opportunities that allow our organization to grow and improve. Consequently, we have participated in the following programs.

In 2019, Pilar Patino, Cesia Gallegos, MD, Camila Trejo, MD, and Priyanka Bisarya, applied to the competitive Yale Tsai CITY (Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale) Spring Accelerator Program. The ITEACH team won a spot to participate in CITY’s Startup and Non-profit Accelerator and earned a $1,000 grant. They were part of an eight-week program that offered guidance on business management, innovation, and design thinking through workshops, mentorship, and funding.

In 2020, ITEACH members received one of two Global Health Education (GHE) Innovation Awards to screen for rheumatic heart disease (RHD). The $10,000 award was sponsored by the Yale School of Medicine's Office of Global Health Education (OGHE).

The OGHE sponsors the GHE Innovation Award to promote faculty research programs in global health education at Yale and to provide opportunities for medical students to learn methods relevant to conducting this type of research. The team earned the award with their project to detect rheumatic heart disease in rural Indonesia using a portable echocardiography device. ITEACH members will provide hands-on training in point of care echocardiography for the screening process. Additionally, they will develop an educational exchange with the Indonesian physicians to provide education in cardiology, cardiovascular health research, and echocardiography.

Your Contribution

ITEACH executes one or two international collaboration programs each year. Between six and eight team members, including physicians, echocardiographers, and medical students, travel to the location, donating their time and skills to conduct the project.

Your contribution will help to cover the travel and logistical expenses along with the educational materials and echocardiography equipment needed for each project.

Funding our initiative will also allow ITEACH to provide education in cardiology, cardiovascular health research, and echocardiography to medical professionals at our partner institutions through a planned educational exchange.

ITEACH Inc. EIN: 83-3570593 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible where allowed by law.
